A little background on CFOFO and its youth initiatives: In 2003, the CFOFO Executives had a vision for our community, in particular on promoting positive attributes among our youth ages 4-25 years. The idea revolved around promoting self-confidence and self-esteem in a safe and yet fun-filled environment. Youths from all communities with diversified ethnic backgrounds were celebrated for their uniqueness. Hence, the first CFOFO Youth Talent Show was born in 2004. In 2005, CFOFO added in the Youth Newsletter written by a youth for the youth. In 2008, CFOFO launched its Scholarship Program, and in 2011 began its Youth Community Volunteer Service Award after the Canada Day Award Program by the Federal Government was discontinued. Seventeen years later, the CFOFO Scholarship Committee has awarded 50 post-secondary scholarships totalling $26,500 to support much deserving youths in their pursuit of higher education. In 2014, CFOFO began to feature youth artists by displaying their artwork ranging from unpolished to polished pieces. We also hosted our first youth initiated and organized Summer BBQ Fun Day in 2014, which has continued on to become an annual event.
